Traditional Mexican Dishes
Tequila Margarita Cocktail
A fresh and balanced Tequila Margarita, with freshly squeezed lime, orange liqueur, agave, and a delicate salt rim. Prepare it at home with simple mixology technique and Mexican cantina flavor.

This Margarita combines the character of white tequila with the acidity of lime, the sweetness of orange liqueur, and agave syrup. It is shaken with ice to achieve a cold, aromatic, and slightly silky drink.

Step-by-step method
- 01

Chill the glass
Chill the glass for a few minutes if you have space in the refrigerator. You can use a coupe glass, a Margarita glass, or a lowball glass.
- 02

Prepare the rim
Cut a small notch in a lime wedge and rub it around the rim of the glass, moistening only the outside.
- 03

Salt the rim
Place the fine salt on a small plate and press the moistened rim into it. Gently turn the glass until a light, even layer forms. If you prefer, salt only half of the rim.
- 04

Measure the tequila
Add 60 ml of white tequila to the cocktail shaker.
- 05

Add the liqueur
Add 30 ml of orange liqueur.
- 06

Add the lime juice
Add 30 ml of freshly squeezed lime juice.
- 07

Sweeten with agave
Complete the mixture with 15 ml of agave syrup.
- 08

Shake with ice
Fill the cocktail shaker with ice cubes, close it well, and shake energetically for about 15 seconds.
- 09

Strain the drink
Remove the ice from the glass if you had chilled it. Open the cocktail shaker and strain the Margarita directly into the salt-rimmed glass.
- 10

Choose the serving style
Serve it without ice in a chilled glass or over new ice in a lowball glass. If using ice, do not reuse the ice from the cocktail shaker.
- 11

Garnish with lime
Finish by placing a slice or wedge of lime on the rim of the glass.
- Salt only part of the rim if you prefer to control the amount of salt.
- Use freshly squeezed juice and good-quality white tequila.
- For a less sweet version, slightly reduce the agave syrup.
- If the drink is too intense, add ice and stir gently.
- Mix each Margarita just before serving to avoid excessive dilution.
- To prepare several, multiply the quantities and shake in batches to chill evenly.
- If in your region, green lemon is used instead of lime, you can use it as long as it is fresh and has enough juice.
